Melbourne Cup: Stinger Glass out; two horses cleared
The veterinary picture changes before final acceptances, with three Saturday re-examinations still scheduled.
Racing Victoria stewards ordered Stinger Glass withdrawn from the Melbourne Cup and stood him down for the rest of the Spring Racing Carnival after imaging specialists assessed a heightened injury risk. The Cup is scheduled at Flemington on 3 November over 3,200 metres.
The official report’s Friday-morning update on 30 October confirmed that Vauban and Litzdeel passed repeat physical examinations and were suitable to accept. Vauban is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott; Litzdeel by Danny O’Brien.
Thursday’s bulletin scheduled Defiantly, Enfjaar and Wine Dark Sea for re-examination on Saturday morning, 31 October. Veterinary clearance alone does not guarantee a final-field place: acceptance remains subject to the race conditions and order of entry.
Imaging and physical examinations are distinct
The organiser stated that all 34 horses remaining in the entry list at 10am Melbourne time on Friday had satisfactory scans. The physical examination is a separate requirement. Final acceptances close on Saturday 31 October at 16:30 AEDT, equivalent to 08:30 in Qatar.
