Aswan

A grey Purebred Arabian stallion foaled in Egypt in 1958 by Nazeer out of Yosreia. Originally known as Raafat, he was presented to the Soviet Union in 1963 and renamed Aswan. At Tersk he became more than an imported sire: he was the pivotal outcross that combined Egyptian refinement—dry head, expressive eye and elevated tail carriage—with the substance and movement of Russian mares, creating a worldwide legacy through both sons and daughters.

  • Bred within Egypt’s state Arabian programme and transferred to Tersk in 1963 as a gift from the Egyptian government to the Soviet Union.
  • Became the most heavily used sire of his Tersk era. Published totals range from 239 to 299 foals depending on registry scope; the range is retained rather than collapsed into a false single figure.
  • Sired Patron, the direct sire of Padron, extending Aswan’s influence through Padrons Psyche, Magnum Psyche, WH Justice and later international show champions.
  • Sired Palas, a major sire in Poland; Kilimanjaro, a German National Reserve Champion; and European Champion Plakat, himself an important sire.
