Aswan

Record and achievements

• Bred within Egypt’s state Arabian programme and transferred to Tersk in 1963 as a gift from the Egyptian government to the Soviet Union.
• Became the most heavily used sire of his Tersk era. Published totals range from 239 to 299 foals depending on registry scope; the range is retained rather than collapsed into a false single figure.
• Sired Patron, the direct sire of Padron, extending Aswan’s influence through Padrons Psyche, Magnum Psyche, WH Justice and later international show champions.
• Sired Palas, a major sire in Poland; Kilimanjaro, a German National Reserve Champion; and European Champion Plakat, himself an important sire.
• His daughters became influential producers, notably Pesnia, dam of Pesniar; Molva, dam of Wympel; and the race-winning Karinka, dam of Russian Derby winner and European Champion Drug.
• Introduced Egyptian refinement to Tersk, especially a dry head, large expressive eye and elevated tail carriage. Russian mares complemented his structural weaknesses, making the cross more valuable than either component alone.
• Belongs to the Saklawi I sire line through Nazeer and the Venus tail-female family through Yosreia and the Hind branch, classified within the Hadban Enzahi strain.
